All of the above... In the Holy Qur’an, the word kufr is used for those people who cover, deny, or are ungrateful for the truth and the favours of Allah. By doing kufr they cover the inner light in their heart that leads to the path of Allah.

What are different forms of Kufr?

Kufr due to Denial

When Rasulullah (s) announced his prophethood, the people who followed earlier books revealed by Allah should have known and accepted that Rasulullah (s) was the promised Prophet of Allah and that he was teaching the truth. His message was similar to the message of their books, and their books said that he would come.

Kufr due to Ignorance

This is when a person ignorantly speculates that the world has come about by itself and things happen just by accident and there is no life after death.

Kufr of Allah's favours

Another meaning of kufr is to be ungrateful for the blessings of Allah.

Hypocrisy

When a person doesn't truly believe and just pretends to believe to show off

Story #3

One night, Kumayl ibn Ziyad, a loyal companion of Imam Ali (a), had a dream. In his dream he saw a beautiful white cloth, but when the people saw the cloth they began tearing it and ripping it to shreds. He was disturbed by this dream and went to Imam Ali (a) for an explanation of what it meant.

Imam Ali (a) said to him: ‘O Kumayl, what you have seen is the end of times!’ Imam explained: ‘The cloth you saw was the pure, beautiful religion of Islam revealed to Rasulullah (s). What did the people do? Everyone took what they liked from Islam and left the rest.’
