Where are you from?

To ask where you're from, you say:

Откуда ты? (informal)

Откуда вы? (formal)

To give an answer, you would say:

Я из Англии.

Я из России.

Names of countries would change at the end like this:

Англия - из Англии

Россия - из России

Китай - из Китая

Америка - из Америки

Канада - из Канады

Иран - из Ирана

This change of the end of a word is called "Genitive Case"

Thus:

• ия - ии

• а - и/ы

• й - я

• consonant - add -а/я
