Bass Clef Note Names
2
Bass Clef = F Clef
Just like the swirl of the treble clef points to the line G, the dots of the bass clef point to the line F.
3
Evolution of the clefs
If you can imagine these changes that lead to the clef design we use today, it might help you remember which note each clef is defining.
4
Bass Clef Notes
Just like treble clef, notes alternate between lines and spaces
When naming notes, you still start at the bottom
Line Notes - GBDFA (Good Boys Do Fine Always)
Space Notes - (All Cows Eat Grass or All Cars Eat Gas)
5
Open Ended
Can you come up with a clever way to remember the Lines and Spaces for Bass Clef? GBDFA or ACEG
6
Notes on the staff
You can see the notes side by side on the staff. Notice that they follow the musical alphabet, just like the treble clef notes.
7
Grand Staff
When you use the Treble and Bass clef together, like you typically see for piano music, it is called the Grand Staff. Next, we will explore how the Treble and Bass clef are related.
8
11 Lines
To show the most commonly used notes on the piano, we use a Grand Staff. The grand staff begins with these 11 lines, each corresponding to a note.
9
If you eliminate the middle line, you are left with two staffs consisting of 5 lines each. By a Treble Clef to the top, and a Bass Clef to the bottom, you create the Grand Staff.
10
Middle C
The note we call "middle C" is shared by both staffs. It rests on that now imaginary middle line between the treble and bass clefs. It exists by using a ledger line, which we will learn about in our next lesson.
