Today we will be reviewing aspects of how to read music, including important vocabulary that we will use often.

How do we read music?

Music Vocabulary:
Staff made up of five lines and four spaces, always labeled from BOTTOM to TOP.
Barlines that separate the staff.
Measures, which are the space between two barlines.
Double barline, which tells us when the song is complete.
Time signature, which tells us which type of note receives the beat and how many beats there are in each measure.
Key Signature, which tells us what notes to sing.
Clef, which also tells us what notes we are to sing.

Sometimes in music you will see this symbol.
This symbol means that you go back a repeat a previous section.
