UNIT 9 MOTIVATION
Motivation is the thoughts and feelings which make us want to and continue to want to do something and which turn our wishes in to action.

KEY AREAS FOR LEARNERS' MOTIVATION
THE TEACHER: Show a good example by being committed and motivated. Try to behave naturally. Be as sensitive and accepting as you can.
THE CLASSROOM: Create a pleasant, clam, secure and ordered atmosphere in the classroom. Bring in humour and laughter, and smile.
THE TASK: Give clear instructions. Point out the purpose and usefulness of every task.

KEY AREAS FOR LEARNERS' MOTIVATION
RAPPORT: Treat each learner as an individual.
SELF-CONFIDENCE: Give positive feedback and praise. Make sure your students experience success. Accept mistakes -they are a natural part of learning.
INTEREST: Select interesting tasks and topics. Offer a variety of materials and activities. Make tasks challenging to involve your students. Use learners' interests rather than tests or grades, to encourage learning.

KEY AREAS FOR LEARNERS' MOTIVATION
AUTONOMY: Encourage creative and imaginative ideas. Encourage questions and other contributions from students. Share as much responsibility for organising the learning process with your students as possible.
PERSONAL RELEVANCE: Try and personalise tasks to make them relevant.
GOAL/TARGET (AIM FOR LEARNERS OR TEACHERS): Set up several specific learning goals for the learners. Encourage the learners to set goals and work towards them. Do a needs analysis of the learners' goals and needs.

KEY AREAS FOR LEARNERS' MOTIVATION
CULTURE: Make learners familiar with the cultural background of the language they are learning. Invite native speakers to some classes. Find penfriends for your learners.
