Halloween originated from a Celtic festival where people would wear costumes to scare off ghosts.

The phrase "Trick or Treat" came from American's going from door to door in a costume asking for food or money, and women thinking they could find possible husbands by doing tricks with yarn, apples, or mirrors.

During ancient Celtic festivals, black cats were used by priests to try and predict the future.

Before the American version of trick or treating, it originated in England from poor citizens beging for pasteries called "soul cakes" in exchange for praying for their family's dead relitives.
