Reviewing the Key Features of Each Method

Taking the Square Roots

(ax+c)²=0

ax²+c =0

• Missing "b" term

• Doesn't have to =0

• Get x² or the binomial squares by itself before taking the square root.

• Don't forget the +/-

Completing the Square

ax²+bx+c=0

• The "b" term is even

• Starts with x² or has a GCF

• Doesn't need to =0

• After factoring, Set both factors =0 and SOLVE for x.

Factoring

ax²+bx+c=0

• Must be in standard form and =0

• Missing "c" term- GCF Factor

• After factoring, Set both factors =0 and Solve for x.

Quadratic Formula

• Must be in standard form and =0

• Not factorable

• ALL QUADRATICS CAN BE SOLVED WITH THE QUADRATIC FORMULA!
