The Mississippian culture started along the banks of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. They built "Wattle and Daub" houses. These houses were made with a wooden frame and covered in grass and mud. They built homes in rows around a central plaza. They were known for building mounds with piles of dirt. These mounds were used for housing the chief, holding ceremonies, and burying their dead.
