Subtraction
For subtraction, you are taking away one number from another number. So if we had 9 and 6 you can put 9 fingers up and then put 6 fingers down, so then you already did a subtraction problem! You have done 9-6=3 if you are confused go to the next slide if you are not confused skip the next slide.
4
Subtraction in more detail
So when you are subtracting, you are taking one number away from a different number. Use your fingers for this one, so if your problem is 8-3= , you would put 8 fingers up then, put 3 pingers down. Now you should have 5 fingers up, that is your answer.
5
Addition
When adding you are putting numbers together instead of taking them away. So if we had 5+3= , you would put put 5 fingers up and put 3 more fingers up. So now if you count how many fingers you have up, good you have 8 fingers up, that is your answer. So this is what it should look like, 5 + 3 + 8.
