1

F; open

2

E; 1 and 2

3

C; open

When I say "Fa" in class, trumpets play F! You can play F on trumpet by pressing down the 1st valve. This is the valve under your pointer finger.

10

Multiple Choice

What syllable do we use when we articulate?

1

Tu

2

Ti

3

Du

4

Da

11

The correct answer is "tu"!

When we articulate, our job is to create a small separation of our notes. This helps us distinct a whole note and 4 quarter notes. We want to have a constant stream of air and say tu!

12

Multiple Choice

Should our articulations stop the air completely?

1

Yes; we should have a long break between notes

2

No; our air should constantly be going

13

The correct answer is no!

When we are articulating, we never want the air to stop. Think of the water faucet analogy. If I turn on a sink and then put my finger quickly through the water, does the water ever stop? No! The water keeps going even though it was slightly interrupted by moving your finger through. In this analogy, your air is the water and your articulation is your finger moving through the water!
