Unit 2 Lesson 5 Benchmark

Students will understand that energy is not only conserved as it transfers from one object to another and from one form to another, but it is also required to alter an object’s motion, which can be changed by forces.

3

Big Idea: Forces and chages in Motion

SC.6.P.13.1 Investigate and describe types of forces including contact forces and forces acting at a distance, such as electrical, magnetic, and gravitational. (Moderate)

4

Student's objectives

Recognize that a force is a push or pull exerted on an object.

Explain the relationship between force & energy

5

Essential Question

What are different types of forces?

6

Unit 2 Lesson 5 Forces Vocabulary

  • Gravity-The force of attraction that pulls objects towards each other; the force that controls the motion of our solar system

  • Matter-Anything that has volume and mass; occurs as elements, compounds, and mixtures

  • Weight-The heaviness of an object; the force of gravity on mass = weight

  • Mass-The amount of matter in an object; a body or object

  • Distance-A measure of how far apart two objects are

  • Electricity- The presence and flow of an electrical charge

  • Magnetic Force- attraction or repulsion that arises between electrically charged particles because of their motion
