SCIENCE 4 Q1 WEEK 3

2
Temperature
has a direct effect on whether a substance exists as a solid, liquid or gas. Generally, increasing the temperature turns solids into liquids and liquids into gases; reducing it turns gases into liquids and liquids into solids.
3
Heat
is probably the easiest energy you can use to change the material’s physical state. The atoms in a liquid have more energy than the atoms in a solid. There is a special temperature for every substance called the melting point. When a solid reaches the temperature of its melting point, it can become a liquid.
4
Some materials may change their size, shape and even texture when exposed to different temperatures.
5
Crayon, margarine, chocolate bar are solid materials. They become liquid when exposed to heat and back its form when cooled.
6
7
Quarter 1 – Module 3_Week 4-5: Changes in Properties of Materials when Mixed and when Exposed to Temperature
8
A mixture is composed of two or more types of matter that can be present in varying amounts and can be separated by physical changes. It is molded when two or more materials are mixed. Solid materials can be combined with other solid materials.
9
Mixed materials can be classified depending on the appearance of the resulting mixture. Mixtures can be homogeneous or heterogeneous.
10
Matter can exist in a solid, liquid, or gaseous state, and the state a substance is in can be largely determined by its temperature. When a certain temperature threshold unique to each substance in the universe is crossed, a phase change will result, changing the state of the matter.
