Place Value
It is important to understand place value when converting fraction into decimals, or decimals into fractions.
8
When we are working with decmials, our place value is 10ths, 100ths, thousandths etc.
This means that a decimal can be represented as a fraction with a denominator of 10, 100, or 1000
When asked to convert a decimal into a fraction it is important to know the place value, to help you determine the denominator.
When converting a fraction into a decmial, you will need to make sure your fraction has a denominator of 10, 100. or even 1000. You will need to know how to use factors and multiples.
9
Example. Write
4 53 as a decimalBecause 4 is my whole number, my decimal will start with 4.
I know i have 53
I need this fraction to have a base of 10 to convert it into a fraction.
If i multiply the fraction by 22 I will get a denominator of 10, and the fraction 106
