Root words can help us build new words and understand new words.
Root words like cycle and tract, for example can make other words by adding prefixes and suffixes to them
Pre (meaning before) and suf (meaning after) are "fixed" to the root word to help build meaning.
bicycle (two+turn), Cylone (turning wind storm)
extract (remove + pull ) tractor (pulling maching)
