Modifiers

A modifier is a word, phrase, or clause that gives additional information about another word in the same sentence.

I'm going to the Saturn Café for a vegetarian burger.

The modifier "vegetarian" gives extra information about what kind of burger it is.

A modifier should be placed next to the word it describes. If a modifier is placed too far from the word it describes it becomes a misplaced modifier. 

A man walking towards the car carrying a briefcase. 

We returned the toy to the store that was broken
