Deborah was a wise and courageous woman. She had 4 jobs - she was a judge, a warrior, a poet and a prophet.

She liked to sing songs and write poems, one of which she made at the end of her story.

Deborah the Prophet

She was a prophet which meant that she was a special messenger for God, who could explain His plans to the people, the Israelites who were not happy at the way their country was.

Deborah the warrior

At that time, the Israelites were very unhappy. The King and his army commander (Sisera) were very mean and cruel to the Israelites.

Sitting underneath the trees in the sun, she would use her wisdom to help the Israelites with their problems and arguments.

The message from God

Deborah was told by God to go and find a man called Barak and to gather an army. He was afraid so Deborah came too where they went to Mount Tabor and waited for Sisera and his army to come.

At the foot of Mount Tabor

Suddenly, God sent a heavy rainstorm, flooding the bottom of the mountain which made Sisera's army become stuck in the mud! Barak, Deborah and their army ran down the mountain and won the battle.

  • With God by our side we have no need to be afraid.

  • We like Deborah can sing of God's victory in our land.

  • Ask God to help us to trust him more and listen to His commands.

  • Just like our GB motto says - We should seek God (with all our heart), serve (by doing) and follow Him (doing as He wants us to do.
