Passage
A biology instructor is teaching a lesson on oceanic shrimp. Some oceanic shrimp are vertical migrators. Most populations of vertically migrating shrimp are found at the bottom of their depth range during the day and then move to the top of their depth range at night.
The biology teacher presented her students with a chart (Table 1) showing the depth ranges and water, protein, carbohydrate, and lipid con tent of three vertically migrating (vm) species of shrimp along with three non-migrating (nm) species for comparison purposes.

4
Multiple Choice
Based on the information contained in Table 1, vertically migrating shrimp have a higher percentage content of :
lipid and carbohydrate
water and lipid
water and protein
lipid and protein
5
Multiple Choice
Based on the information contained in Table 1, non-migrating shrimp have a higher percentage con tent of :
lipid
water
protein
carbohydrate
6
Multiple Choice
Assuming that the species described in Table 1 are representative of all shrimp types, if a new shrimp species were discovered with a protein content of 62%, it is most likely that the shrimp species:
is a vertical migrator
is a non-migrator.
has a higher lipid percentage than vertical migrators.
has a 10% carbohydrate content
7
Multiple Choice
If a higher lipid percentage helps the shrimp with stand cold temperatures, which shrimp species is most likely to survive a localized climate shift that drop temperatures several degrees?
vm B
vm C
nm B
nm C
8
Multiple Choice
If a higher lipid percentage helps the shrimp with stand cold temperatures, which shrimp species is least likely to survive a localized climate shift that drops temperatures several degrees?
vm B
vm C
nm B
nm C
9
Multiple Choice
A shrimping boat has a net that only reaches 50 meters deep. If the six shrimp species in Table I are the dominant species of shrimp in the area, what would be the best time for this boat to go shrimping and make a successful catch?
Noon
Afternoon
Night
The timing does not matter.
10
Multiple Choice
Based on the information contained in Table 1, non-migrating shrimp have a higher percentage con tent of :
lipid
water
protein
carbohydrate
