TOTAL PHYSICAL RESPONSE

This method is based on the coordination of speech and action, that is, by teaching the language through physical activities, having been developed by James Asher professor of psychology at the State University of San José, California.

  • APPROUCH: By looking at the material chosen and teh sequence in which it as preseted in a SW classroom, it is clear that the SW takes a structural approch to the organization of language to be taught. The sentence is the basic unit of teaching.

  • DESIGN: The SW adopts a basically strutural syllabus, with lessons planned aroud grammatical items and related vocabulary.

Esses métodos e abordagens surgem como um questionamento aos valores de ensino dos métodos tradicionais. E têm como discussão um movimento comunicativo no ensino de línguas. Surgindo principalmente nos períodos de 1970 á 1980, com postulados diversos , esses metódos e abordagens de ensino, tinham a característica de não seguir os estudos e a literatura sobre o ensino de línguas e não seguir pesquisa relacionada a linguística aplicada.
