Let's Review!

2

This clef is called a

Treble Clef.

Higher sounding instruments usually use this clef. (Flutes, Oboes, Clarinets, Saxes, Trumpets, French Horns, Mallets)

3

This stave (or staff), is what is used to place the musical notes on.

5 lines with 4 spaces in between (Like the fingers on our hand)

Slide image

4

The clef is placed at the start of the stave.

This lets us know where the notes are going to be.

Slide image

5

The Treble Clef is also called the G clef.

That's because it kind of wraps around the second line which is the note G.

Slide image

6

The notes in the 4 spaces of the Treble Clef are F A C E.

Hey! Isn't that a word?

Slide image

7

The notes on the 5 lines of the Treble Clef spell the word EGBDF!

Not really. Let's use Every Good Boy Does Fine. Or maybe Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge. (I like fudge)

Slide image

8

In music, we use only the first 8 letters of the alphabet.

A B C D E F G (See the pattern?)

Slide image

9

In America, we know this as a quarter note. In other places they call this a crotchet.

Sounds different huh?

Slide image

10

We use short lines called ledger lines to extend the staff.

Higher notes go above the staff. Lower notes go below the staff.

Slide image

11

Having more than 4 or 5 ledger lines can be confusing!

Most of you will probably not have that many (Some instruments will learn to play these high notes in high school).
