The Fredonian Rebellion

A man named Haden Edwards in 1825 gets an empresario contract to settle 800 families

The Fredonian Rebellion

Edwards discovered that there were already families who lived on the land he was given to settle.

He accused the families there of having fake documents/deeds to the land.

The Fredonian Rebellion

Haden got his brother Benjamin elected governor of the area and had him try to kick out the settlers that were on Haden's land.

The settlers complained to the Mexican government.

The Fredonian Rebellion

The MX government cancelled Haden's contract. However, some of his supporters revolted and tried to make Fredonia (the name of the area) an independent country from Mexico.

This Fredonian Rebellion was put down and Haden Edwards fled Texas.
