Adjectives

Words that are used to describes people, places, and things.

Examples: big, small, tiny, beautiful.

These Descriptive words can help give information about: size, shape, age, colour, texture, and feelings.

Adjectives may appear...

1- after verb- be

He is sick.

I am happy.

The students are smart.

2- after verb- feel/ look/ seem

He feels nervous.

She didn’t seem happy.

It looks delicious.

The students feel angry.

3- before nouns

It is a big house.

she is an old lady.

They are smart students.

Order of adjectives

Opinion: pretty, horrible, lovely.

Size: huge, tiny, big, little.

Age: old, young, new.

Shape: round, square, triangular.

Colour: black, red, yellow.

Origin: British, Chinese, French.

Material: wooden, wooden, silk.

Degrees of comparison 

Adjectives come in three forms: absolute, comparative, and superlative.

Absolute adjectives describe something in its own right.

A smile face

A messy desk

Comparative adjectives make a comparison between two or more things. 

A bigger car

A messier desk

Superlative adjectives indicate that something has the highest degree of the quality

The biggest car

The messiest desk
