The American. Flag

  • Mary Pickersgill was asked by Coleonel George Armistead to make the flag that would fly at Fort McHenry

  • The flag would be 30 feet hoist by 42 feet fly

  • Mary started off sewing the flag at her home and when it became too big moved to a malt house where she had more room

  • Mary worked for 12-14 hours per day for 6 weeks to complete the work
