Count by multiples of six

Use different strategies to find the quotient.

Let's review familiar facts and finding the unknown.

 $6\ \times\ 2\ =a$  

Find the unknown 'a'

 $5\times6=A$  

Find the unknown 'A'

We can also use multiplication to solve division and Division to solve Multiplication.

Since we know that 3 x 6 = 18, we also know the related division fact 18 ÷ 3 = 6 or 18 ÷ 6 = 3

Commutative Property Strategy

If we know $6\times9=54$  then we know  $9\times6=\ \ ?$  

Distributive Property

We need to find out what 6 x 8 =

but maybe we don't know that fact off the top of our head.

We can break 8 up which could be

5 + 3 since we know our 5 facts.

What would 6 x 5 = ?

What would 6 x 3 = ?

Now we know...

What do we do with the 30 and 18 ?

We add the totals together...

We broke down the original factor to find smaller familiar factors and added the two totals together.
