What are state verbs?

We use used to but NOT would to talk about past states:

Form

Used to + base form of the verb

• + I used to believe there were monsters under my bed

• - I didn't use to play video games

Would + Base form of the verb

• + She would play with her dolls when she was young.

• - I wouldn't sleep because I was afraid of monsters under my bed.
