Adjective Order

Adjective serves to describe a noun. When defining a noun as an attributive adjective (in front of the noun), more than one adjective may be used.

Adjective order, namely adjective order based on category. Adjectives that are opinion are usually mentioned first followed by those based on facts.

Example

That car is black, extravagant, and expensive (NOT ADJECTIVE ORDER)

It is an expensive extravagant black car (ADJECTIVE ORDER)

Component of adjective Order

• Quantity : One, two, three, etc…, some, any, much,many, a few, several

• Opinion : Awesome, nice, important, beautiful, gorgeous, bad, naughty, neat, amazing, wonderful, cruel, fierce, tough, original

• Size : Big, small, tiny, gigantic, large, wide, broad, enormous, huge, massive, colossal

• Physical Quality :Soft, rough, thick, thin, well-built, slim, fat, healthy, sick

• Shape : Circle, rectangular, triangular, flat, hexagonal, narrow, square

• Age : Old, young, newborn, classic, traditional, ancient, new, youngest, eldest, oldest 

• Color : Red, white, blue, orange, green, pink, silver 

• Origin : America, Canada, UK, Indonesia, South East Asia, Vancouver, China, Jakarta, Surabaya

• Material : Cotton, iron, flour, gold, glass, metallic, wooden, plastic, melamine

• Type : Time-saving, free, part-time, on sale, two-sided, all in one

• Purpose : Cleaning, washing, swimming, sports, traveling, office, sleeping, eating, cooking
