American Revolutionary War

  • Before the war, each state had its own constitution.

  • After the war, the states joined together to establish a Federal Government under the Articles of Confederation

  • The Articles turned out to be a weak system of government and this needed to be changed.

The Constitutional Convention

  • 55 delegates held a series of meeting were held in 1787 (May-Sep) in Pennsylvania to address shortcomings of Articles of Confederation

  • In order to gain the support of all the states, compromises had to be made.
