Factoring a polynomial

  • We can take the GCF out of a polynomial and show what is left behind.

  • The GCF of 8y - 2y2 = 2y

  • We put the GCF outside of the parenthesis and divide each term by the GCF to show what is left behind

  •  2y(8y2y2y22y)=2y(4y)2y\left(\frac{8y}{2y}-\frac{2y^2}{2y}\right)=2y\left(4-y\right)
