Light Wavelengths

As the wavelength increases, the amount of energy decreases. Violet light (short) has more energy than red light (long). Plants appear green to us because different pigments (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, and carotenoids) abosrb all colors and reflects green.

Light Dependent

This reaction takes place in the thylakoids. Water molecules are split to give electrons, H+ ions and Oxygen gas (O2). This type produces ATP and NADPH. O2 is a waste product but will be used for cellular respiration.

Light Independent/Calvin Cycle

This reaction takes place the stroma. It uses CO2, ATP, and NADPH. NADP+, ADP+, sugar is produced and stored as starch.
