  • Some poems rhyme

  • Some don’t at all

  • Some can be 14 lines

Key terms

  • Alliteration: repeated letters at the beginning of a word

  • Simile- a figure of speech that directly compares two things! Similes differ from metaphors by highlighting the similarities between two things using words such as "like" or "as"

  • Metaphors- a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable.

  • Rhyme scheme-the ordered pattern of rhymes at the ends of the lines of a poem or verse.

  • Onomatopoeia- when the words being used mimic the sounds it is describing (ex: ring)
