How to form superlative adjectives:
RULE 1: We usually add–est to one-syllable words to make superlatives:
old = oldest long = longest

How to form superlative adjectives:
RULE 2: If an adjective ends in –e, we add –st:
nice = nicest large = largest

RULE 3: If an adjective ends in a vowel and a consonant, we double the consonant:
