In order to correctly read decimals and to correctly write them in unit form you must know where each place value unit is located. Review the place value chart.

Para leer números decimales correctamente para escribirlos correctamente en forma de la unidad debe saber d​ónde está ubicada cada unidad. Repasa la tabla de valor posicional.

Lets start with/Empezaremos con: 0.038  

When we read 0.038 as "zero point zero three eight," that is "spelling" the number. To correctly read this decimal first ignore the decimal point and read 038 as the whole number "Thirty-eight." Then say the decimal unit where the last digit falls. The last digit, 8, falls in the thousandths place. So we read the decimal as "Thirty-eight thousandths."

Cuando se lee 0.038 como "​cero punto cero tres ocho" es la ortografía del número. Para leerlo correctamente primero ignora el punto decimal y lee 038 como número entero "treintiocho." Entonces se dice la unidad de decimal donde esta úbicado el último digito. El último digíto ocho está un el lugar de milésimas. Entonces se dice "treintiocho milésimas."

Now let's try/Ahora trateremos leer: 1.05

To correctly read this decimal first read the whole number before the decimal 1.05 as "One." Then, read the decimal point as "And."

Now read the numbers after the decimal point 05 as a whole number "Five."Finally, say the decimal unit where the last digit falls. The last digit, 5, falls in the hundredths place. So we read the decimal as

"One and five hundredths."

Para leer el número decimal correctamente primero lee el número entero antes del punto decimal 1.05 como "uno." Entonces lee el punto decimal como "y." Ahora se lee el número después del punto decimal 05 como número entero "cinco." Entonces se dice la unidad de decimal dónde esta úbicado el último digito. El último digíto 5 está un el lugar de centésimas. Entonces se dice "uno y cinco centésimas."​
