Ch. 5 Test Prep
2
Have your notebook out and ready to review the first section of Chapter 5
The next 2 slides are going to ask you questions about inequalities and the words that match them
3
Multiple Choice
Which Inequality means "is at least"?
<

≤
≥
4
Multiple Choice
Which inequality means "is fewer than"?
<

Open or closed dots
Open - the solution is NOT included, but a number just next to it will be
Closed - the solution IS included

When graphing, if you have the variable on the left (where it should be!), then just follow the direction of your
inequality sign :)
9
Poll
Arrow on the graph goes to the right or to the left?
Right
Left
10
Solving Inequality Basics
Pretend the inequality is an = and solve as normal
If you multiply or divide by a negative number, flip the inequality sign
If the variable winds up on the right, move it to the left and flip the inequality sign

Multiple Choice
−x−3<5
x<2
x<−8
x>2
x>−8

g < 1
g > 1
g < 2
g < 3

n<−195
n < 17−7
n < −197
n<3

Compound Inequalities
You need to solve 2 inequalities
And : when you write the final answer, it looks like this:
2≤x<15And : graphed BETWEEN the solutions
Or : when you write the final answer, it looks like this: x<2 or x>7
Or : solutions graph AWAY FROM each other
16
Poll
Will this inequality be graphed away from each other or between the solutions?
away
between
17
Multiple Choice
"And" compound inequalities need to have their solutions written a specific way.
What is the correct way to write the solution x<10 and x>2
10 < x < 2
2 < x < 10
2 < x > 10
2 > x > 10
18
Quick Graphing Refresher
Make sure the equation is in slope intercept form: y=mx+b
Start with the y intercept (b) and put a dot on the y axis
From that dot, do what the slope (m) says: rise (up or down) first, the run to the right and make a second dot
Draw your line (make sure it matches what your inequality says)
19
Graphing Inequalities
< or > is a dotted line
≤ or ≥ is solid a line
< or ≤ is shaded below the line
> or ≥ is shaded above the line

Multiple Choice
