Present tense of -er verbs

Use of the present tense

to talk about what you usually do or to talk about what you are doing now.

formation

• first cut off -er

• then to the stem add the endings for each subject

• you will have to memorize the endings!!!

Let's conjugate a verb: parler -to speak

Negative form

• to make a sentence negative we should add ne before the verb and pas after.

• when there is un,une or des in sentence ,it becomes "de" in the negative

• Eg: je mange une glace= je ne mange pas de glace.

interrogative/question form

• add Est-ce que at the beginning and ? at the end

• use question words like Comment, où, quel ,quand,combien de

• invert the subject and the verb

• eg:Parles-tu l'anglais? (do you speak English?)
