Directions

On each slide is a different tab on your foldable. It goes in order from top to bottom. You will copy everything I have on the slide into your foldable. There are questions throughout these slides that you will answer as well.

3

Overview: First part of Foldable

  • Goal: to store energy into ATP from energy into food, aka, make energy for us!

  • C6H12O6 + 6 O2 ----> 6 CO2 + 6 H2O

4

Oxygen vs. No oxygen

  • Aerobic Respiration --- Oxygen is present

  • Anaerobic Respiration --- oxygen is NOT present

5

The Process

  • Glycolysis --- convert glucose to pyruvate, does NOT need oxygen

  • Krebs Cycle --- converts pyruvate to 2 ATP, some NADH & FADH2, needs oxygen

  • Electron Transport Chain --- Uses electrons and hydrogens to make 34 ATP and water, needs oxygen

6

Lactic Acid Fermentation and Alcohol Fermentation

  • Lactic Acid Fermentation --- pyruvate converts to lactic acid and 2 ATP, happens in your muscles

  • Alcohol Fermentation --- pyruvate converts to alcohol, CO2, and 2 ATP, happens in yeast

  • BOTH of these processes DO NOT REQURIE OXYGEN
