DHWANI

LONG, long ago, there was a beautiful girl born in a village in Karnataka. Her parents were poor. Another mouth to feed was not welcome to them. The girl was named Dhwani. Little did anyone know at that time that this beautiful child would have a beautiful voice one day?

Dhwani's parents moved to a city, leaving the infant in her grandmother care. The grandmother was extremely fond of the child and loved to sing to her in her old trembling voice.

For seven year, little Dhwani grew up happily in the fields and hills, listening to the birds learning the names of flowers and crops and singing to the cows and goats in the meadow. It seemed that Dhwani could understand the language of creatures around her. They too seemed to respond to every word she sang to them.

One evening when Dhwani got back to the title hut she saw her grandma lying on a mat, looking frail and ill. She also saw two strangers by her side; they were Dhwanis own parents, It was time for her grandmother to leave for her heavenly abode and for Dhwani to leave for the city. She was distressed that her and leaving her forever and she herself was leaving her friends -the animals, birds, fields and hills.
