"The shot heard around the world" is an example of hyperbole that has been used in history for hundreds of years. Obviously, one shot was not heard throughout the entire world. However, what is the significance of this statement, or what is it really saying?

1

Great Britian was making a statement to the world that they were the super power and they would no longer be harassed by the colonies.

2

The 13 Colonies were showing the world that they could and would fight Great Britian, and prove they didn't need their tea.

3

The French decided they wanted the land in Great Britian AND the 13 Colinies, so they invaded the land from Boston to Lexington, taking the first shot at the British soldiers and essentially causing a world war.

4

For many years tension had been high and several events had happened. As a result, this was the shot the whole world had been waiting for, for they knew that a war was inevitable.
