Objective of the lesson

Muslims are always required to uphold the truth. Allah subhanhu wa' ta'ala says when the truth is revealed falsehood vanishes. Islam always promotes the truth. Allah loves truthful people. This lesson discusses why upholding the truth is important and how we can do small things to encourage the truth.

  • All messengers of Allah did their best to uphold the truth even though it was hard

  • Allah ALWAYS helps people who try to establish the truth

  • Allah's name is Al-Haqq because he is true and loves the truth

Challenge with Friends and Family

  • It sometimes hard to be truthful with friends and family or people we know

  • Sometimes we tell small lies even if no one pays attention to them, a lie is a lie.

  • Always be truthful in everything whether it be big or small.

Realize your Inner Power

  • Allah gave human beings a special power to STOP telling lies.

  • All of us have this power and it can come out with some conscious effort.

  • "And do not utter falsehoods by letting your tongues declare: "This is lawful" and "That is unlawful," thus fabricating lies against Allah. Surely those who fabricate lies against Allah will never prosper. (Surah Nahl:116)

Falsehood is afraid of the truth

Upholding the truth should be our main goal in life no matter how difficult it is. Truth will always exist, you don't have to create it, but you do have to create a lie. Falsehood is afraid of the truth because the truth always shatters it. The more you examine the truth the stronger it becomes.

The Qur'aan on Truth

  • "And proclaim: "The Truth has come, and falsehood has vanished. Surely falsehood is ever bound to vanish." Surah Israa: 81

  • "Nay, We hurl the Truth at falsehood so that the Truth crushes falsehood, and lo! it vanishes. Woe to you for what you utter!" Surah Anbiyaa:21

Giving False Evidence is prohibited

In our day to day life we will be required to give evidence on a certain matter. This evidence is not necessarily in the court of law. The evidence could be in front of friends or people that we know. Islam teaches us to give truth evidence even if the issue is of little consequence. Even if its against our own selves.

Life Cycle of Truth

  • Great truths can go through a cycle or stages

  • First people laugh at the truth, then they try to oppose the truth and resist it then they accept it.

  • We learn this from the way Rasulullah peace be upon him came with Islam.

All Messengers were Truthful

  • Truthfulness was one of the main qualities of every single prophet and messenger.

  • The messengers were Human beings if they could be truthful then so can we.

  • People would not have followed the messengers if they were not truthful.

Always Be Honest

Ask yourself, Are we truthful in our actions? Are We honest in our words and intetnions? We cannot become truthful in one day but we mist try our best to speak the truth even if it causes trouble for us. Because if we are truthful then Allah will help us and take all of our troubles away.

The prophets never mixed truth with falsehood. They always stood by the truth and the whole truth no matter how difficult it made their lives.

Being Honest and truthful doesnt just mean with words but also with our actions. If someone wants us to keep a secret we should keep it. If someone lends us something then we should return it when they want it back. If we make a promise then we try our best to fulfil that promise.

Being Truthful leads to Jannah!

  • The greatest reward for being thruth is forgiveness from Allah and entry into Paradise.

  • "the men who are truthful and the women who are truthful... for them is forgiveness and a great reward" Surah Ahzab ayah 35

  • Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud narrated that the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him said "Truth leads to piety and piety leads to Jannah"
