to add fractions, the first step is to make the bottom numbers the same. for example 4/5+1/5 is ready because the bottom numbers are the same. then add the top numbers without changing the bottom numbers. if the top number is bigger than the bottom number, then minus the number above by the number below. if you can only minus one time, like 6/5 then turn it into 1 1/5. if it can minus two times like 12/5, then turn it into 2 2/5 and so on
