Fort Life 3.03
A fort is an army post made up of many buildings and defended by soldiers. Forts built in colonial days usually had a good view of the surrounding area. Most had towers allowing soldiers to be ready against attacks. Some forts were built along cliff tops, next to waterways. This allowed soldiers to see ships passing.

In the 1700s, there were many land disputes between Britain, Spain, France, and later the United States. They disagreed about the boundaries of the different territories. In the early 1800s, the United States gained a lot of land.
