1

4 miles per hour

3

30 miles1 hour\frac{30\ miles}{1\ hour}

4

8

To find a unit rate we need to simply divide!

  • 1. Write your rate as a fraction

  • 2. Set it equal to

     ?1\frac{?}{1}

  • 3. Divide by the denominator

9

Example:

Find the unit rate if there are 20 passengers in 10 cars.

  • 1. Write your rate as a fraction.

  •  20 passengers10 cars\frac{20\ passengers}{10\ cars}

10

Example:

Find the unit rate if there are 20 passengers in 10 cars.

  • 2. Set equal to

     ?1\frac{?}{1}

  •  20 passengers10 cars=?1 car\frac{20\ passengers}{10\ cars}=\frac{?}{1\ car}

11

Example:

Find the unit rate if there are 20 passengers in 10 cars.

  • 3. Divide by the denominator

  •  20 passengers÷1010 cars ÷ 10\frac{20\ passengers\div10}{10\ cars\ \div\ 10}

12

Example:

Find the unit rate if there are 20 passengers in 10 cars.

  • Once you do the division you have your unit rate:

  •  20÷10=210÷10=1\frac{20\div10=2}{10\div10=1}  -> 2 passengers1 car\frac{2\ passengers}{1\ car}
