Communities are different. They have different people, jobs, and histories. They also may be located in different regions. A region is an area with at least one feature that makes it different from other areas.

Population

The features of a community might include landforms and climate. Another feature that makes a region different from others is its population. The population of a place is the number of people living there.

Agriculture

Many people in a rural area depend on agriculture for work. Agriculture is the raising of farm animals and the growing of crops for sale. Not all rural communities have farms or ranches though.
