Steps to Rounding

• Step 1: Circle the place value of the digit to be rounded. This is the rounding digit.  

• Step 2: Look to the neighboring digit on the right.

• Step 3: If the neighboring digit is less than five (0 - 4), keep the rounding digit the same.

• If the neighboring digit is 5 or greater (5-9), change the rounding digit by going up

• 42 .... 4 is the rounding digit. 2 is the neighbor. 2 is less than 5 so the rounding digit stays the same. 42 rounded is 40
