Nuclear family

• Two parents with kids.

• Usually small

• They live together

Single-parent family

• Only one parent

• One or more children

Extended family

• Outside of your nuclear family

• Grandparents

• Uncles and aunts

• Cousins

In-laws

• Not related by blood

• Related by marriage

• For example, your sister's husband

• Your wife's mother

• Brother-in-law, Father-in-law, etc.

• Plural: brothers-in-law, not brother-in-laws

Adoptive family

• The child is no longer with their parents.

• "New" parents.

• Permanent

Foster family

• The child is no longer with their parents.

• A family takes care of them until they are adopted.

• Temporary
