Food Chain vs Food Web
Day 1

2
Open Ended
What do all the organisms have in common? How do you read a food chain?
3
Food Chain vs Food Web
What is the difference between the two?
4
What's happening in this story
5
Food Chain
Food Chain- Flow of energy (linear) from producer to tertiary consumers.
A food chain starts off with a producers (plants) and shows how energy is moving between the organisms.
The arrows show the flow of energy
6
How to read a food chain
All food chains start with the sun (Most will never put it on the actual chain)
Then energy moves to the producer (organism that makes its own food) in this case we have seaweed
Next the fish eats the seaweed and gains the energy
Next the shark eats the fish and gains the energy
Lastly the zooplankton feeds on the shark after it dies to gain energy.
7
Multiple Choice
Looking at this food chain, how is the energy flowing?
Starts with the snake and ends with the Mongoose
Starts with the leaf and ends with the snake
Starts with the Chameleon and ends with the leaf
Starts with the leaf and ends with the mongoose
8
Open Ended
How are the food chain different from the food web?
9
Food Web
Food Web- Flow of energy in the overall ecosystem between all of the biotic (living) factors. The food web has many paths to show the many options for energy to flow.
Represents all of the food chains in the ecosystem
The arrows still show the flow of energy.
10
How to read a food web
Start with your producers (plants)
Next follow the arrow(s) of organisms that may eat them.
Continue following the arrows until you have reached the "end".
