Queen Elizabeth I

Early Life

  • She was born in 1533

  • She was the daughter of KIng Henry the VIII and Anne Boleyn

  • His father had 6 wives and many children who were heirs to the throne

  • Her brother Edward VI and sister Mary inherited the throne before Elizabeth

  • Elizabeth took the throne after Mary died in 1558, but many did not want her as the queen

Struggle Over Religion

  • Roman Catholics and Protestants disagreed with each other and were constantly fighting over their beliefs

  • Queen Elizabeth was Protestant

  • Within a year of her becoming Queen she passed the Act of Supremacy and the Act of Uniformity

  • Those acts establish England as a Protestant Country and got rid of anyone who objected. Not everyone agreed with this, but it brought peace to the country because it stopped all the fighting.
