A Summary

A short restatement of a text's key ideas. It needs to contain the most important ideas in a text and present them in an order that makes sense. Summaries also need to be in your own words!! Summarizing helps good readers understand and remember important information in a text.

Summarize Nonficton

• Summarize do-make it short, include just the facts, use your own words, include key vocabulary

• Summarize Do NOT-Do not make a list, Do not retell the whole text.

Summarizing Steps

• Read the text

• Annotate key details

• Organize the details in order

• Use your own words to restate the most important details
