In Task 1 writing, we sometimes will have to write about the prediction or prognosis for the future (based on the data in the graph).


To do so, we will see a set of words:


predict, forecast, project, estimate, anticipate, expect

Adjectives

predict - predicted, predictable

forecast - forecast, forecasted

project - projected

estimate - estimated

anticipate - anticipated

Verbs of prediction - passive voice

  • It will be most natural to use passive voice with the words we have just revised, it also gives you extra points :)

  • Method 1: It is + predicted / estimated / projected / anticipated etc. + that

  • Method 2: Sth + is/are + predicted / estimated / projected / anticipated etc. + to do

  • Example: Computer sales will increase. -> It is predicted that computer sales will increase. -> Computer sales are predicted to increase (method 2)
