Punctuation

  • The marks, such as Period. Comma, Parenthesis ( ), used in writing to separate sentences, and clarify meaning.

Period (Full Stop .)

Marks the end of a sentence.


Example: My name's Daniel.

Question Mark ( ? )

Shows that a question is being asked.


Example: Where are you from?

joins two or more ideas. in a sentence or separates item in a series.



Example: She is a clever ,healthy woman.

indicates the end of a dramatic sentence or statement.

indicates direct speach, exact words spoken or written.

links two clauses of equal importance. Also separates items on a list if a comma is used.

are used to enclose extra information from the main sentence or statement. it is about 3 times the length of an hyphen.


Example: All the ingredients---tomatoes, basil an onion---

used to join words together it can join words that are linked such as compound adjectives and prefixes to root words.


Example: she's an award-winning author.
