  • An adverb describes or gives more information about a verb, an adjective or another verb.

Kinds of Adverbs

  • Adverbs of Manner: These adverbs answer the question ‘how’ or in what manner an action is done.

    For example: He spoke politely.

    How did he speak?------- politely

  • Adverbs of Time: These adverbs tell us ‘when’ an action takes place.

    For example: Emma played yesterday.

    When did Emma play? ---------yesterday

  • Adverbs of Place: These adverbs tell us ‘where an action takes place.

    For example: Lily and Ben play here.

    Where do Lily and Ben play? -----------here

  • Adverbs of Frequency: These adverbs tell us ‘how often’ an action takes place.

    For example: The little girl buys a lollipop every day.

    How often does the girl buy a lollipop? ----------everyday

  • Adverbs of Degree: These adverbs answer the question: ‘How much?’ or ‘To what extent?’

    For example: Lucy has completely understood the instructions.

    To what extent has Lucy understood the instructions? ------------ completely
