Measurement Proportions

  • Must get UNIT RATE from the STAAR chart

  • Set up with labels

  • Add missing unit to correct section of ratio

  • Solve using cross products or factors like in picture

Percent Proportions

  • You will onlt be given a percent or be asked to find percent

  • You must know that 100 is the WHOLE PERCENT and goes with the percent given or asked

  • Set up part to whole = part to whole- Use cross products or factor to solve

  • Remember the parts equal each other- represent same LABEL(Tip=% Tip)!

  • Its a ratio you set up and simplify to 1 unit

  • Used to find miles per gallon, cost per pound......TO COMPARE WHICH IS THE BEST!

  • DIVIDE......What it ask.. cost per item(divide cost) Miles per gallon(Divide miles)

  • Used to determine better buy- Cheapest!

Percent to decimal to fraction

  • READ the question

  • If no percent or decimal MAKE A FRACTION from the parts

  • Almost all relationships can be wriiten as a fraction

  • Ex: 2 out of 5= 2/5 Or you spent $8 out of $20 = 8/20.....and ALL fractions can be changed to a decimal or percent!

  • Can be used to solve for missing parts or wholes

  • If 200 vegatables were planted, how many are Squash?

  • Know 25%/100% is squash so 25/100= x/200, so 50 plants were squash.......SET UP Proportion and solve
